In W. E. MacClenny book, The Life of Rev. James O'Kelly he reports that
William O'Kelley married one of the daughters of
Rev John Chetwode . The Chetwodes were a high born English
Noble family and there was a branch of that family that settled in
Ireland during the Plantation period beginning with James I in the
early 1600s. Irish born Rev John Chetwode was the Chaplin of
James Butler, the English King's Lord Lt of
Ireland. James Butler was a Protestant Jacobite during the 1690
Irish Revolutions a cause that brought both Irish Catholic and Irish
Protestant to fight for Ireland. It is certain that Rev John Chetwode and Col
Charles O'Kelley, one of my Irish Ancestors and author of
Macariae Excidium knew each other.
My research fails to identify any daughters born to
Rev John Chetwode but he did have two
granddaughters who were of the right age that either could have been the
mother of Rev James O'Kelley so while MacClenney's claim is
possible, I have found not documents to confirm.
Mission Statement - To provide documentation and gather information about the Rev James O'kelley Family and explore its possible connection to my
William O'Kelley family,
http://okelley.net. I believe
Rev James O'Kelley may have been a brother to William Kelley living
in Mecklenburg Virginia at the time of the
1782 Census.
